Safety Barriers For Production Areas

Production areas are where automated machinery, manual workstations, material handling, and people all come together on a working manufacturing floor. Production lines, robotic cells, and processing equipment run alongside forklifts and pedestrians, and the constant movement of materials and product through the area creates a complex safety environment that requires clear physical separation.

Verge Safety Barriers works with manufacturers across Australia to put the right physical controls in place on production floors. Defining exclusion zones around machinery, separating workers from forklift movement, and protecting equipment and infrastructure in manufacturing environments of every kind.

WHY PRODUCTION AREAS NEED SAFETY BARRIERS

Machinery, Materials, And People In One Space

A production area concentrates several distinct hazards onto a single floor. Automated production lines and robotic cells operate with movements that can cause serious injury. Forklifts and material handling equipment move raw materials in and finished product out. Workers operate machinery, carry out manual tasks, and move between workstations. The interaction between these elements is where the risk lies.

The challenge is keeping each of these activities safely separated while maintaining the flow and efficiency that production demands. A worker stepping into a forklift path, an unauthorised entry into a robotic cell, or a forklift striking production equipment are all incidents that occur on manufacturing floors where physical separation is inadequate.

Australian WHS legislation requires manufacturers to control these hazards with effective physical measures, including guarding and exclusion zones around machinery. Verge Hy-Wall and barrier systems create solid, floor-anchored separation between production equipment and foot traffic, and define the forklift and pedestrian zones that keep a production floor running safely.

KEY PRODUCTION AREA SAFETY ZONES

Where Verge Products Make The Biggest Impact

Machine Guarding and Robotic Cell Exclusion

Automated machinery and robotic cells require solid, floor-anchored exclusion zones that prevent access to dangerous moving parts. Hy-Wall mesh and solid panel barriers create compliant machine guarding that keeps workers out of the hazard zone while maintaining the sightlines needed to monitor the equipment.

Forklift and Material Handling Routes

The routes used to move materials and products through the production area need clear separation from worker areas. HD Barriers and ECO-Rail define forklift corridors and pedestrian walkways, keeping material handling movement separated from the workstations and machine operating areas across the floor.

Manual Workstation Areas

Manual workstations are where workers spend extended time focused on detailed tasks, often unaware of approaching traffic. Barriers define and protect these workstation zones, separating them from forklift and material handling movement and protecting the workers who are focused on the task.

Production Line Boundaries

Production lines run continuously and need clear boundaries that separate the line from cross traffic. Barriers and rail define the production line boundary, preventing forklift and pedestrian movement from crossing the line and protecting both the workers on the line and the equipment itself.

Raw Material and Finished Goods Staging

The staging areas where raw materials are held before production and finished goods are held before dispatch see concentrated forklift activity. Barriers and bollards define these staging zones, separate them from worker areas, and protect stored materials and product from damage.

Equipment and Infrastructure Protection

Production equipment, electrical infrastructure, and structural columns are vulnerable to forklift contact on a busy production floor. Bollards and column protectors absorb impact before it reaches the equipment or structure, protecting the assets and the production continuity that depends on them.

CASE STUDIES

Trusted By Australian Manufacturers

Probiotec Limited – Kemps Creek NSW

Verge supplied and installed over 1,000 metres of safety barriers, gates and related products at the Probiotec Limited pharmaceutical facility in Kemps Creek, working with Mainbrace Constructions in a tight timeframe with precise coordination required throughout. The project demanded proactive problem-solving and open communication to stay on schedule. The client feedback on completion was described as ‘just UNREAL, just PERFECT,’ reflecting the standard of workmanship and project management delivered.

Alstom Altona VIC

Alstom expanded their Australian operations with a new 7,500 sqm facility dedicated to storage and distribution of spare parts. As a global company with over 60,000 personnel and high standards for employee safety, Alstom required a complete safety barrier package prior to their go-live date. Verge consulted on the layout, manufactured and installed a full suite of standard and custom solutions within a short timeframe, including Driver Safety Zone Kits for visiting delivery drivers, Dock-PRO gates, Eco-Rail handrails, V-Gates and column protectors.

Admil Adhesives Mulgrave VIC

Admil Adhesives undertook a site safety upgrade as their production floor team grew and painted line demarcation was no longer considered an acceptable means of separation. The safety team selected the Australian-made HD Barrier as their chosen barrier system, and Verge completed the comprehensive upgrade across the Mulgrave facility to provide physical pedestrian segregation and forklift traffic management.

WHY CHOOSE VERGE FOR PRODUCTION AREA SAFETY

Australian Made, Production Ready

Australian Made and Owned

Every Verge product is manufactured at our Glendenning, NSW facility, meaning faster delivery, local technical support, and products designed specifically for Australian conditions and WHS compliance requirements.

Machine Guarding Expertise

Production areas require compliant guarding around dangerous machinery. Verge Hy-Wall systems provide solid, floor-anchored machine guarding in both mesh and solid panel configurations, giving you compliant exclusion zones that maintain the visibility needed to monitor equipment.

WHS Compliant

Verge products are designed to meet Australian Work Health and Safety standards, helping manufacturers document their hazard controls and demonstrate duty of care to regulators and auditors.

Modular And Adaptable

Production floors are reconfigured as product lines and processes change. Verge's modular product range can be reconfigured, relocated, and extended as the production area evolves, without replacing existing infrastructure.

Fast Lead Times

Local manufacturing means we can respond quickly when a safety gap needs to be addressed, without waiting on international supply chains or extended lead times.

Protect your Production Area with Verge Safety Barriers

Every production area has a different layout, machinery configuration, and workflow. Whether you need machine guarding around a robotic cell, forklift and pedestrian separation, or protection for production equipment, Verge can help you find the right solution.
